About the NameSchnellenberg History
This 13th century fortress includes tower rooms with open fireplaces, great halls, and vaulted, beamed ceilings. Once the most powerful stronghold in the Sauerland, it belongs to the Barons of Furstenberg as it has since the 11th century. Chapel and treasury are filled with exhibits of the ancient past. Watch out for the castle ghost - a knight in armor carrying his helmeted head under his arm.
