25th Anniversary
Ehrenburg marks 25 years in business
by Tom Eremondi (StarPhoenix Creative Services)

After 25 years, Joe Ehr still gets excited about building houses. That's one reason his company can proudly look back on a quarter century of success and achievement."Even today I get excited when I look at a house plan. It's neat to take it from a piece of paper and turn it into to a finished product."
A journeyperson carpenter, Ehr first broke into the business with his brother, Chuck, in the late 1970s. Even before then he was fascinated with building, he recalls. "I grew up on a farm and our family had a firemen friend. He'd come out to the farm and build sheds or cabinets. I remember helping him and thought I would enjoy doing that."
After framing, finishing and renovating for a few years, Ehr began doing other building tasks, then complete homes. "The first one I did was in 1983. I did three homes that year."
With only a handful of homebuilding companies from 1983 still operating today, Ehr says there a reason for his company's success."I knew if we did a good job by building quality homes, we'd be around for a long time."
Preferring to be a mid-sized company means Ehrenburg is a better builder."We constructed 40 homes in 2007 and will probably start 30 to 40 this year," Ehr says."We believe we maintain better quality that way."
Ehr adds that success also is due to his family, staff and contractors, all of whom have played a big role in the company. He also thanks his customers."The people of Saskatoon and surrounding communities like Warman, Martensville and the acreage communities have made the last 25 years of building homes very enjoyable."
